Tomb Hunting and Trekking Adventure in Sovana

Get ready to be thrilled!
Join me on a 6km trek that will depart from the the city of Sovana (the most important Etruscan city in the area) to look for a series of late Etruscan tombs hidden and unknown to most. These tombs were often so many to form a real city which is why they are known as Necropolis. These tombs and their Vie Cave are in less crowded areas, but their beauty and charm are second to none. Be ready to witness the magnificence of a Via Cava, a canyon carved by human hands. Feel the vibes when you dive in it, and then try to imagine the tremendous effort made by the Etruscan people to dig these man-made canyons. Upon return there is the possibility to have a wine tasting from local winery.

MEETING POINT: Centro Storico di Sovana Via del Duomo, 37/1, 58010 Sovana (GR). The guide will wear a black backpack and trekking gears, together with an official badge

ATTENTION: the price of the experience does not include the tasting that can be paid on site to the owner.

We will walk in the footsteps of the Etruscans, the ancient people who inhabited the ancient lands of Marrema, immersing ourselves in the Vie Cave (ancient streets dug into the tufaceous rock that reaches a depth of 25 meters) and following a circular route of about 6 km (3.7 miles.) Experience the secret walkways, caves, and tombs of these people who dug the paths to connect with the Necropolises, also known as the ancient cities of the dead. The tour will end with a visit to a private historic cellar (featured in National Geographic) with a wine tasting and sampling of local cured meats and cheeses. The entire excursion will be an experiential journey that will involve the 5 senses, allowing you to experience and savor all the history and uniqueness of a territory.

A magical place and an ancient forest where the last brigands of the Maremma, Domenico Tiburzi, hid. We will also see the places where the ancient craft of the charcoal burner who spent months in the intricate forest to produce the coal necessary to heat our homes during the winter took place.
